These ceramic figures are about stillness, the human form and the passage of time.
I’m drawn to figures with closed eyes, bowed heads and softened shoulders. There is something very quiet about them — as though they have turned inward and are simply taking a moment to be.
The crackle glaze has become an important part of the work. I love the way the fine cracks change the surface of the clay. They can look like skin, but also like traces of time — evidence of what the piece has been through.
The firing is never completely predictable, and I don’t try to hide that. The cracks, marks and variations become part of the character of each figure.
For me, there is something beautiful in that combination of stillness and change: a form that feels calm and lasting, while its surface reminds us that nothing stays exactly as it is.
